In the digital age, our memories are scattered across cloud storage, social media, and hard drives—often at the mercy of centralized platforms that can delete, lose, or restrict access to our most valuable moments.

Digital Legacy Studios (DLS) Dapp

A decentralized application (dApp) for the DLS Utility Token on the Polygon network, enabling secure media preservation, metadata protection, and decentralized ownership.

Overview:

The DLS DApp is a secure, blockchain-powered platform designed to protect, preserve, and privately share photos, videos, and historical media. It ensures long-term accessibility, metadata integrity, and verifiable ownership without reliance on centralized Big Tech platforms. Users gain the ability to maintain private, portable collections, with optional public galleries, and participate in a tokenized reward system powered by the DLS Utility Token.

Why We Care

Rows of white headstones with American flags in Arlington National Cemetery, surrounded by green grass and trees.

Media ownership online has become fragile. Families, creators, and institutions frequently lose access to their own archives due to:

  • Platform shutdowns

  • Account lockouts

  • Centralized censorship

  • Data corruption

  • Loss of metadata

  • Storage provider failures

DLS is built to solve these problems permanently. Our vision is to create a decentralized, user-first ecosystem where:

You, not a corporation, own your media

  • Your metadata is preserved permanently

  • Your files remain accessible for generations

  • Your legacy remains tamper-proof and portable

This is not just a storage solution, it's a long-term digital preservation platform.

What We’re Raising Funds For…

We are raising funds to complete the DLS DApp as a fully functional, secure, and user-ready platform. Funding will specifically support:

  • Finalizing full-stack development of the DLS DApp, including smart contract optimization, wallet abstraction, and DRM-based media rights.

  • Completing UI/UX development for the functional prototype, enabling users to upload media, mint ownership assets, and manage collections seamlessly.

  • Launching the DLS Utility Token, which powers loyalty rewards, access tiers, data integrity verification, and user-to-user interactions.

  • Strengthening metadata integrity, including AI-powered tagging, automated foldering, and decentralized metadata anchoring (IPFS + Arweave).

  • Building a Hybrid Custody Architecture that supports both non-custodial onboarding and full self-custody for advanced users.

  • Expanding marketing, community growth, and partnership acquisition, especially among families, archivists, museums, and historical institutions.

Funding Requirement for Functional Prototype

A full breakdown is included in the appendix, but the target range for a functional prototype is:

$290,000 – $410,000

  • 4 people

  • 6–8 months

  • Full prototype

  • Token system

  • Custody architecture

  • AI features

  • Decentralized storage

  • Launch-ready DApp

This funding completes the MVP, deploys the token, builds the custodial system, and makes the platform demo-ready for investors, partners, and grant committees.

Custodial vs. Non-Custodial Architecture

Hybrid Custody Architecture for Real-World Preservation

Traditional blockchain applications force users into either:

  • Fully custodial systems (centralized and insecure), or

  • Fully self-custodial systems (complex and high-risk for everyday users)

DLS solves this with a Hybrid Custody Architecture purpose-built for media longevity, accessibility, and security.

1. Default Option: Smart, Abstracted Non-Custodial Wallets

New users automatically receive an abstracted smart wallet where private keys are secured through:

  • Device-based authentication

  • Biometric access

  • Invisible key management

Users do not manage seed phrases or private keys.

This approach:

  • Removes onboarding friction

  • Supports seniors, families, and institutions

  • Reduces user error

  • Allows intuitive login and recovery

2. Optional Full Self-Custody for Advanced Users

Advanced users can optionally export:

  • Private keys

  • Token balances

  • NFTs representing media ownership

  • Metadata assets

This allows permissionless ownership and portability across any wallet or chain.

3. DLS Guardian Key Recovery System

For users staying in the default non-custodial mode, DLS uses a multi-signature guardian recovery model, where:

  • One key remains on the user device

  • One key is encrypted and split across DLS shards

  • One key is held via recovery verification

This model prevents:

  • Loss of access

  • Centralized control

  • Single points of failure

It mirrors industry-leading approaches used by Coinbase, Safe, and Fireblocks.

4. Custody of Media Files vs. Custody of Keys

  • Media files are stored on IPFS and Arweave with optional encryption layers.

  • Keys, permissions, and ownership proofs are controlled through the hybrid custody system.

Users can always export:

  • Media

  • NFTs

  • Token balances

  • Metadata

  • Ownership proofs

No lock-in. Ever.

5. Built for Preservation

DLS’s hybrid approach is designed for:

  • 20–100+ year digital preservation

  • Family-level and institutional access control

  • Recoverability across generations

  • Survivability beyond any single company

This is essential for museums, historical societies, First Nation communities, genealogists, and families maintaining their digital legacies.

Risks & Challenges

Development & Technical Complexity

We have structured our funding to include security audits, scalable architecture, and a phased roadmap that ensures stability and maintainability.

Adoption & User Education

We will produce clear onboarding materials, community training, and partnerships with archival professionals to make Web3 features intuitive.

Smart Contract Security Risks

Our contracts undergo third-party audits and follow battle-tested best practices before Polygon mainnet deployment.

Scalability & Gas Fees

Layer 2 scaling and batch processing minimize costs and ensure high performance.

Regulatory & Compliance Risks

The DLS Token is structured as a utility token, with a forward-compliant architecture that adapts to evolving regulations.

Market Volatility

Liquidity pools, staking, and multi-phase release schedules help stabilize long-term engagement.

Delivery & Timelines

A clear roadmap and milestone-based updates ensure transparency and accountability.

How We’ll Make It Happen

  • Built the foundational smart contracts for the DLS Token & DApp

  • Completed initial integrations with IPFS and Arweave

  • Designed metadata architecture and AI pipelines

  • Defined user roles, media flows, and access systems

  • Outlined the Hybrid Custody Architecture

Funding will complete:

  • Functional prototype

  • Wallet abstraction
